  4. APRS protocols are copyrighted material of Bob Bruninga, WB4APR

  6. COPYRIGHT 1992-97:  Amateur radio operators may freely copy and use 
  7. the APRS software in the Amateur Radio Service.  I have tried to make 
  8. APRS fully capable of receiving and plotting ALL on-the-air packets 
  9. whether a station is registered or not.  The registration contribution 
  10. only balances the headache factor, and to cover myself against un-
  11. licensed commercial exploitation.  What you get for registering is the 
  12. ability to interface your OWN GPS/WX/DF units and a little convenience 
  13. in saving your configuration.

  15. These APRS formats are provided for use in the amateur radio service.  
  16. HAMS may apply the APRS formats in the TRANSMISSION of position, 
  17. weather, and status packets.  However, the author reserves the 
  18. ownership of these protocols for exclusive commercial application and for 
  19. all reception and plotting applications.  APRS is a registered trademark 
  20. of Bob Bruninga, WB4APR.  Other software engineers desiring to include 
  21. APRS RECEPTION in their software  for sale within or outside of the 
  22. amateur community will require a license from the author.  Also 
  23. TRANSMISSION of APRS protocols in any NON-AMATEUR commercial application 
  24. or software will require a license from the author.  Licensing is not
  25. intended to be restrictive, but to provide a means for the maintaining
  26. a consistent on-air protocol and for the owner of APRS to share in any
  27. proceeds made from APRS commercial applications.
